Accommodation of the month - Dunia Camp
Currently the best place in the Serengeti to see rhinos is Dunia Camp. Located in the South Central area of the world famous Serengeti, the camp is tucked into a secluded area of the park where guests can still enjoy spectacular game viewing during the migration while staying away from the busier areas of the park. The presence of permanent water ensures year round game-viewing. Dunia Camp is a very high specification mobile camp and can be visited between December and March when game viewing is at its best. Dunias camp is famous for its hospitality, food but most of all, spectacular gameviewing and birdwatching.
Dunia Camp consists of 6 large en-suite guest tents. Each tent has its own private veranda overlooking the Serengeti and inside the tents you will find comfortable king-size beds, beautiful traditional cloths and contemporary furniture. The en-suite bathrooms have flush toilets, a double sink and a safari shower. Authentic African and nouvelle European is cuisine is served in the mess/dining tent or you can enjoy dinner and drinks underneath the stars beside the camp fire.
Game drives from Dunia Camp are unlike anything else in the Southern Serengeti due to the prime and private location in the Moru Kopjes. Dunia Camp gives you access to the best that the southern and central Serengeti has to offer: the Ndutu area, the southern plains, the Moru Kopjes and the central Serengeti valley. Typically, the Great Migration congregates on the southern Serengeti plains in the December to March period, to give birth to a next generation of wildebeest and zebra. The migratory wildebeest and zebra share the land with elephant, giraffe, Thomson gazelle and a host of other plains species. There are plenty of big cats to see in the area with large lion prides and cheetah frequently sighted. Lucky guests may spot the rare black rhino in the Moru area. For the culturally interested - Moru Kopjes is home to colourful and mysterious Maasai rock paintings
Things to do
Dunias best activity is game viewing. But other activities such as a once in a lifetime balloon ride offer an excellent variety of habitats and combine migration watching with the search for big cats as well as rhino. The Moru Kopjes currently is the only area of the Serengeti where the illustrious rhino can be viewed. For bird lovers, this area is a heaven on earth and from your private veranda both birds as well as game can be watched perfectly.
