Tanzania has world most beautiful game lodges and safari possiblities. But it also has great beaches. And you do not have to fly to Zanzibar to find them. There are great lodges near Dar es Salaam on the mainland. Staying on the mainland sometimes saves time - and money. Dubai to Africa recommends three great places. One is the best beach lodge, the others offers a unique combination of being in the wild but also on the beach. There are much more lodge accommodations near Dar es Salaam but we would recommend the following three.
Ras Kutani is set on a crescent of white sandy beach, washed by the gentle surf of the temperate Indian Ocean. The lodge is situated only 35 kilometers South of the port of Dar es Salaam and offers the perfect hideaway. The setting ensures the ultimate feeling of being on a tropical island. The cottage lodge is flanked by a fresh water lagoon abutting onto a coastal forest, which spills to the edge of the unspoilt and undeveloped beach. Accommodation is in nine spacious, charming cottages constructed of local materials that harmonise perfectly with the wonderful surroundings.
Saadani, a Tent With A View is situated in an excellent position on the shores of the Indian Ocean just outside the northern boundary of Saadani National Park. The setting is superb, being beautiful and wonderfully tranquil. The camp is set amongst coconut palms which open up onto a wonderful pristine beach of white sand.
Saadani provides game drives in Saadani, together with the lazy, laid back or activive beach holiday.
Foot safaris combining the bush and the beach, birdwatching by canoe on the Mafue are all possible.
The Tides Lodge
The Tides Lodge is an exclusive, friendly and unpretentious beach resort and is located on the spectacular Swahili coastline. This African oasis combines the experience of the bush with rustic luxury accommodation. The surroundings are heavenly. The cottages at The Tides are situated on the beach. Your privacy is guaranteed: each cottage has its own private sunbathing area. The lodge has been voted 'one of world best beaches' by The Sunday Times Travel Magazine.
